Hanger Straps

Cut lengths for clamshell hangers, wall straps and hangers with one long end.

Clamshell hanger

A B one half other half
Job examples
  • Hang a 21 1/4" pipe (BCIT)Clamshell, 1 1/4" tabs.Each half 35 7/8 (35.879).
  • 18" pipeClamshell, 1" tabs.Each half 30 1/4 (30.274).
How it's calculated

One half = half the circumference + a tab on each end: π × A ÷ 2 + 2 × B. The full hanger is two halves. All rounding is done at the end: lengths to the nearest 1/16", decimals to 3 places, like the BCIT worksheet.

Wall strap pipe in the corner

A B B ceiling wall
Job examples
  • Pipe tight in a corner (BCIT)18 9/16" pipe, 3/4" tabs.Cut 34 5/8.
  • 10" pipe on a wall1" tabs.Cut 19 7/8.
How it's calculated

Cut length = tab + ½ A (leg down the side) + a quarter of the circumference (π × A ÷ 4) + ½ A (leg across to the wall) + tab, or π × A ÷ 4 + A + 2 × B. Rounded to the nearest 1/16" at the end.

Hanger with one long end

D A B C
Job examples
  • Hang a 16 3/8" pipe (BCIT)A 1 1/4, B 5, C 1.Cut 58 11/16.
  • 24" pipe off a long hangerA 1 1/2, B 8, C 2.Cut 86 7/8.
How it's calculated

Cut length = the full circumference + both ends + the tab: π × D + A + B + C. Rounded to the nearest 1/16" at the end.
