CAD Drafting & Layout

Drawings, flat patterns, and cut files — the work that happens before anyone touches material, so the part comes out right the first time.

What this covers

Useful whether I'm building the part or you are. A clean pattern is the difference between a part that drops in and a part that gets trimmed on site.

  • Shop drawings and dimensioned part drawings
  • Flat pattern development — parallel line, radial line, and triangulation
  • DXF files ready for a laser or plasma table
  • Bend allowances and flat sizes worked out before cutting
  • Turning a hand sketch or a field measurement into a usable drawing
  • Delivered as PDF drawings, DXF cut files, or both

How drafting work runs

01

Send what you have

A sketch, a photo, field measurements, or an existing drawing that needs correcting. Rough is fine — that's the point.

02

First draft for review

You get a drawing to check before anything is final. Catching a wrong dimension here costs nothing; catching it after cutting costs material.

03

Final files

Dimensioned PDF, DXF cut files, or both — whatever your shop or cutter needs.

Common questions

Can you develop a pattern for an odd transition?

That's exactly what triangulation is for. Send the two openings, the offsets, and the height, and the pattern comes out of that.

Will the files work with my cutter?

Tell me what table or service you're using and I'll match the file format, kerf, and layout to it.

Do I have to have you build it?

No. Plenty of drafting work goes out to people cutting it themselves or sending it to their own shop.
